What Affect Did World Waer 1 Have on Art Movenments in the 1920s
World War I helped bring in a new way to create art. Even before the state of war, artists were trying to break convention from the strict rules held before. During the end of the Romantic era, the art being created started to look different. Impressionism was the last move of that era, which began the change in the aesthetic representation in art. The idea of how a painting should expect was inverse with the bright colors and short brush strokes of impressionist painting. Like painting styles persisted into the early on mod era, such equallyPaths of Gloryby the British painter C.R.W. Nevison created in 1917, seen here:
This painting, created before the stop of the war, contains the castor strokes and colors similar to Impressionism. However, this scene is not a happy scene of vacationers outside of Paris, like many impressionist pieces were. This is a beautiful piece depicting the death of 2 unknown soldiers. I like that this slice has overnice colors while withal being able to convey the somber mood that is trying to be portrayed. Globe War I did a good job of changing the aesthetic office of art, but information technology also changed the mood in which art was created. Before the war, art was happy or showed honor or beauty. After the war, art got more pessimistic, every bit people were able to see the total brutality of the world. They did non try to dumb this down for a while.Gassed , by another British painter, John Singer Sargent, was completed in 1919. It is seen here:
This painting is some other wonderful piece that shows a grouping of soldiers returning from the front end line after existence attacked past mustard gas. This is a pitiful piece, that includes other groups of soldiers, both well and dying or dead. At that place is a little optimism in the left background, as another group of soldiers is still playing soccer in their camp. However, the chief feeling presented by this painting is a sad one. It does a great task of portraying the brutality of the state of war. The pessimistic view persisted, especially in Europe, where they did not experience as great of a 1920'south decade as the Americans did. One time the Great Depression set in, everything looked very dim. Germany, hit hardest after the war and never able to fully recover, was a sorry identify during this time. Most of their troubles could be traced directly back to World War I, and this sentiment could exist felt in their fine art.Der Krieg (The War), by the German painter Otto Dix, was completed in Dresden in 1932. Information technology is pictured here:
This is a beautiful merely grim piece that shows the hardships and devastation of the war. There is no happiness or optimism in this piece. Soldiers rush into battle, just to have everything destroyed and killed. Information technology is beautiful simply extremely sad at the same fourth dimension. This type of painting became common as the morality of humans was chosen into question afterwards such expiry and devastation was dealt out. Artists would then try to change the thought procedure of humans, as other art forms, such as surrealism, were created. This fine art grade removed all idea and convention of the time earlier the war and changed it to give freedom to the creative person. All of the rules could be broken, and this was at present okay. This could be a direct consequence of the state of war.
